Arveda Alzheimer’s Family Care is very different than a traditional nursing home. Arveda’s residences are certified Alzheimer’s Assisted Livings that are licensed to provide care by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS).

Arveda Alzheimer’s Family Care provides a “Social Model” of care not a Medical Model” of care.  That means that Arveda’s residences are home-like, with only 22 private rooms with private half baths.  Arveda’s silent monitoring system notifies the staff when the residents need assistance.  This provides a calmer and more serene living environment for the residents.

Arveda’s staff does not wear scrubs and an LVN is onsite 40 hours a week and on-call 24/7.  The residents of Arveda Alzheimer’s Family Care have fewer medical and nursing needs.  PT/OT/ST, Home Health, Hospice and a visiting physician can be provided by third party agencies in-house if needed.

Arveda’s social model of care places a very high importance on the social needs of the residents: the need to belong to a social group of peers, the need for companionship and understanding, the need to be an active participant in their lives through decision-making and active participation in meaningful activities throughout the day.

Skilled Nursing Homes provide a Medical Model of Care that focuses on meeting the patients’ skilled medical needs by providing an RN on-site 24/7, a medical director on staff, and in-house rehabilitation.  A Medical Model of Care is considered to be very clinical.  It can feel like a medical facility with RNs and Certified Nursing Assistants who wear scrubs.  Also, the environment in the medical model of care can be quite noisy, with buzzers and resident call systems ringing at all hours.
